“I’ve got a lot of work to do, but I’ll be back,” Arndts said.
“I have so much to do in the next year and a half.
And so, yeah, it’s just not for me.
It’s just for the next generation.
I just want to see what the next chapter is.”
Arnds has been attached to direct “The Force Awakens” and is working on a “Star Wars” spinoff film.
He said he’d like to bring back a certain “Star Trek” character, but added he would not be doing a reboot of “Star vs. the Forces of Evil.”
“It would just be a terrible thing for a fan base to do,” Arrds said.
But he added that he would “love to be involved in a reboot” of “The Phantom Menace,” because “it’s really a fantastic film.”
He did not mention which franchise he’d prefer to direct.
He also said he’s interested in playing a “dark” villain, though he said he doesn’t want to do one.
“It’s not a role I’m particularly excited about,” he said.
Arnddt also spoke highly of his fellow “Star” cast members, including Idris Elba and Peter Mayhew, and also said they were all “very happy” to be cast.
“They’re all very supportive of each other,” Arntts said of his actors.
“That’s one of the reasons I think they’re doing it.”
“I think they do a very good job, in my opinion, and I think it’s a very rewarding project to be part of,” he added.
“We’re just really excited to be a part of it.”
The “Star War” sequel will begin shooting in early 2017.
